Sand-ground coarse kaolin provided the desired qualities. ’ Changes in body formulas resulting in significant increases or decreases in a pyroplastic-deformation norm are economically and technically undesirable, owing to need for mold-design changes and kilnplacement problems. The present report deals with a situation in which needed reformulation’ of a sanitary-ware casting body required replacement of one kaolin constituent by another. Economic, technical, and political considerations demanded that the replacement kaolin be drawn from a particular indigeneous source.

One is molding “pots,” and the other is conceiving babies. With the breakthroughs in England on conception and the recent births of “test tube” babies in this country, the sanitary-ware industry is the one left alone in a unique, untenable position. I predict that unless the sanitary-ware industry starts making significant engineering advances, it will be out of contention as an industry for the affordable house. The molding methods need to be improved so that they can compete against injection-molded lavatories, tanks, and closets made from space-age materials and technology.

Safety and health problems can be solved at the workshop and plant-floor level by the parties concerned in ways simply not available to OSHA. Moreover, employers have at their disposal ways of rewarding actions that promote workplace safety and health. We anticipate a small-scale, 1-yr experimental program, with agency personnel assigned to oversee a number of pilot projects. The public comments we are receiving will help OSHA decide on criteria for approval of projects for individual employers.
